THE NIKON PRICE SPECS AND FEATURES COMPARISON

BODY: NIKON DSLR D5100 VS D7000
If your plan is to use one of these camera's for a professional photography career, and you will take it anywhere. Then, make sure that you consider the body of the DSLR that you are planning to buy. The NIKON DSLR D7000 has a compact body, yet have a very durable -magnesium alloy on top and rear covers. Making it very tough, with superior weather and dust seals. Obviously, for the BODY, we have to give it to the D7000.

SHOOTING SPEED: NIKON DSLR D7000 VS D5100
What we are talking about here is the TOP Continuous Shooting Speed at full resolution. The NIKON DSLR D7000 is can perform up to 6 frames per second -(CIPA Guidelines). While the D5100, its top speed is just 4 frames per second. Shooting speed is very important, especially if you are covering a sports or any event that requires to shoot fast moving objects. Because, we don't wanna miss a thing, every seconds count. For the SHOOTING SPEED, the winner is the D7000.

VIDEO QUALITY: NIKON DSLR D5100 VS D7000
If you are looking for the best Movie or Video quality, The NIKON DSLR D5100 is capable of FULL HD Movie: 1,920x1,080 / 30 frames per second. While, the D7000 can also produce a FULL HD Movie: 1,920x1,080 / but, only at 24 frames per second. For the VIDEO QUALITY, the winner is the D5100!

CARD SLOT: NIKON DSLR D7000 VS D5100
For Professional photographers who often use their camera's to cover events like wedding, concerts or any gatherings, card memory is so important. The NIKON DSLR D7000 can actually make your worries disappear, giving you Two (2) precious card slots. On the other hand, D5100 just have one (1) card slot. Both of them can accommodate SD, SDHC and SDXC Memory Cards. The winner for the CARD SLOT, is the D7000.

PRICE: NIKON DSLR D5100 VS D7000
Why the price is so important?! NIKON DSLR D7000 is $1,199.95, while the NIKON DSLR D5100 is just $899.95. If you are just a student, in a tight budget or you just want to have your own DSLR Camera, of course, you want to buy the camera that is worth buying. If you get the NIKON DSLR D5100, you can save as much as $300! For the PRICE, of course, I would give this one to D5100!

AF POINTS: NIKON DSLR D7000 VS D5100
AF or Auto-Focus mode is very important in a DSLR Camera. AF points give Sports, Bird, Wildlife shooters a much better and accurate focus giving you a sharp photo output. The D7000's number of AF points: 9, 21,39 and 39 for 3D-tracking. While, D5100 only has 11 AF points. AF POINTS goes to D7000.

BATTERY LIFE: NIKON DSLR D7000 VS D5100
If you are covering an event, you can't afford to waste your time in dealing with your battery. The D7000's Battery is EN-EL15 Lithium-ion, and can do 1,050 shots (CIPA)! While the D5100's is EN-EL14 Li-ion, than can only do 660 shots (CIPA). For the Battery Life, the D7000 wins!

Based on our comparison between the great NIKON DSLR Cameras: D7000 and D5100, both camera's are truly worth buying. But, I guess, If budget is not an issue, and you want a tougher camera and you will use it more on Professional -events, wildlife or sports photography. I believe that the D7000 is still the best choice! But, If you are in a tight budget, and you will use it more for making videos, then, buy the D5100! I think, that's all for now! 'Till next time!

i totally agree with this blog. if not for the price, then i would prefer to buy the d7000 over the d5100. however, i could think of only two reasons on why one should buy a d5100 as opposed to the d7000. first, the weight and size of the body. if others prefer using larger cameras for better hand fit, others instead prefer smaller cameras which are easier to strap around the neck or shoulders while travelling. the other reason is exclusive for people who are new to the dslr environment. if you are only upgrading from a point-and-shoot and not from a dslr, then i suggest that you buy the d5100 as it has less features that i think would be more user-friendly for beginners. :)

@Paul Orville - Tnx for the insights! You are right, D5100 is much more user-friendly than the D7000. I wasn't able to mention here the other features, for comparison. Like, a separate Video button on D5100, which allows you to shoot HD Video's right away. Interface is different too, so, there you go! Tnx for dropping by! =)

I think D7000 is better than D5100,But and But and But,there is a question, whether deference more than $300 between their prices,is logical? it means Whether price of more features of D7000 is $300?
I think for "Card Slot" & "Battery Life" there is no WINNER,Because for example if a person use 2 16GB Ram for D7000,another person can use 1 32GB ram for D5100,and if a person Use one battery for D7000,another person can use 2 battery for D5100,price of 2 battery is not $300!!,it means these features are not superior, and about "Body" I think it is exactly Depends to Users,i think D7000 is Winner Just in "Shooting Speed" that i don't think price of this victory be $300!! thank you

how about picture quality?

@ how about the picture quality? d5100 although its an high entry level on consumer dslr got a superb picture quality match with the pro entry level on dx format d7000. again talking about the picture quality, its vividness and sharpness, either you are a canon or nikon user its all in the lens. attached a compatible pro lens on d1500 and attached a cheap lens on d7000 or d700....what do you think will give you the best picture? have a nice day...keep on shooting. am jopar

@ farapour, of course d7000 is better than d5100 by the mere fact that d7000 is a pro entry level on dx format while d5100 is an upper entry dslr consumer level. but warn you d5100 is sitting just behind d7000 and left d3100 / d5000 ( its descendants ) far behind. let us not be blinded to compare consumer level against pro level in a tight situation for always be the winner is the pro. manufacturers of these cameras know what they are doing...for every product they produce they know who are their clients to serve. i got more on this....but happy shooting. have a nice day and God bless.
